We’re Motor. Our mission is to accelerate the decarbonization of personal mobility by making it easier to drive electric.

Motor partners with utilities to accelerate consumer adoption of electric vehicles. Motor engages customers through their utility to offer access to EV ownership, overcoming common barriers to adoption and ensuring both the economic and grid benefits of electrification.

We are an early stage company and raised a $7 million Series A round in Q1 2023. We are headquartered in Arlington, Virginia and operate in Indianapolis, Indiana and Dayton, Ohio. 

Job Description 

Motor is looking for a finance team member who will be responsible for building and managing the finance area of the company. 

The Director of Finance is a roll-up-their-sleeves doer who can be hands on with the numbers while also leading the definition of processes. They have a passion for spreadsheets, and can think strategically about our business. They can analyze the financial aspects of our product strategy, and play a significant role in our capital raising activities. As the first dedicated finance leader in the company, they will be a trusted member of the management team and responsible across all financial aspects of Motor’s business. 

Responsibilities 

  • Be a trusted finance voice in the company, reporting to the CEO, serving on the management team, and building the company’s finance processes. 

 

  • Strategic Finance
    • Shape the financial aspects of our business by guiding product development and operations teams on pricing and unit economics. 
    • Develop financial models and forecasts to support business planning and investment decisions, including capital raising for the company. 
    • Support fleet vehicle acquisition, sale, and remarketing decisions through financial analysis.

 

  • Finance Operations
    • Regularly provide Motor management and board of directors with guidance and actionable insights based on financial performance and operational KPIs.
    • Manage and oversee the company’s financial operations including FP&A and cash management; leverage back-office accounting and AP/AR services.
    • Manage the company’s annual budget planning and monthly close processes.

 

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Strong alignment with Motor’s mission.
  • 7 to 10 years of relevant finance experience (FP&A, accounting, capital raising)
  • Experience on teams at fast-growing early stage companies.
  • Experience in the automotive or mobility industry.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills. 
  • Startup mentality: hands on with ability to toggle between big picture strategy and small details, no problem too big or small for your attention.
  • Arlington, VA location on a 2 day office + 3 day remote schedule.
