Motor and Green Mountain Power Launch Program to Accelerate EV Adoption in Vermont

Motor will Now Serve Utility Customers in Indiana, Ohio and Vermont

Arlington, VA (10 August, 2023) – Motor, which partners with utilities to accelerate consumer adoption of electric vehicles (EVs), announced today a new program with Green Mountain Power (GMP), the world’s first B-Corp certified utility. Motor will provide GMP customers with a marketplace experience that will help them become EV drivers via a low-commitment monthly subscription service and digital purchase platform, while also supporting enrollment in GMP’s EV rate programs.

To combat greenhouse gas emissions, there needs to be significant decarbonization within the transportation sector, the largest contributor of emissions in the United States. Electric utilities have a crucial role to play in supporting customers with this transition. They are uniquely positioned to spearhead the electric transition by leveraging grid connected EVs in the form of virtual power plants (VPP) to support grid resilience and provide customers with cleaner, more cost-effective transportation options.

Motor works with utilities to provide a first-of-its-kind EV adoption program to amplify their clean electrification work by making it as easy as possible for customers to start driving electric and enroll in EV programs.

“We are thrilled to work with GMP, in an exciting partnership that marks a significant milestone for the adoption of EVs in the state of Vermont, and across the U.S.,” said Kris Bahlke, COO of Motor. “By collaborating with a forward-thinking utility like GMP, we are taking a meaningful step forward in our expansion, further validating that utilities can play a critical role in the EV transition. Together we’re driving grid-resilient EV adoption by providing customers with an unparalleled experience that makes it as easy as possible to start driving electric.”

With the program, Motor and GMP will spur EV adoption among GMP’s 270,000 customers in Vermont through a suite of solutions designed to get people behind the wheel of an electric car, including a low-commitment monthly subscription service and the ability to purchase an EV directly from Motor’s digital marketplace.

Importantly, driving an electric car provides GMP customers with an easy way to reduce their personal carbon footprint, and through GMP’s discount EV charging rates, the opportunity to use electricity as an affordable transportation fuel source.

Motor’s platform will help guide customers by enrolling them in existing EV programs at the point of acquisition. By streamlining this process for customers, Motor expects to significantly increase participation in these programs, improving their efficacy in providing increased demand flexibility and grid resilience to lower cost and carbon for all GMP customers.

The program is available to all customers in GMP’s service area, and people can sign up, here.

This program with GMP represents a significant milestone for Motor as its first outside the Midwest, and a pivotal step in Motor’s expansion and commitment to achieving equitable EV adoption across the United States.
